American Red Cross- March 20th

Spring has officially sprung! Was I the only one who Winter passed by without stopping? This year is already getting hot, hot, hot, in true South Carolina fashion, of course! Don't get me wrong, I love longer days and warmer weather, but it all seems like it has come too quickly. This is just another testament as to how fast time passes us by. If we don't embrace the present and live for the moment, we could blink and in an instant, everything could have blown right past us. That's why I think it is important for us to fully embrace the American Red Cross in the present! March will be over before we know it, meaning it will be a whole year before National American Red Cross Month is among us again. Don't let the opportunities in the present to make a difference and give the gift of life pass you by!

Being a very science oriented person, I find today's fact interesting. Do you know how many pints of blood the average adult has in his or her body? Well, in case you were wondering, the answer is 10 pints. So, how much of your body's blood supply is taken for 1 whole blood donation? That answer, too, is simple. Only 1 pint of the average 10 pints is taken during a donation. That's it! Only 10% of your blood supply is collected in order to save a life! As was stated in a previous post, your body does naturally replenish itself of the blood supply over time. What more could you ask for? The human body is an amazing thing, so amazing, in fact, that you can save a life and keep yours, all at the same time! It's like having your cake and eating it, too! So, there should be no reason to be reluctant to have a seat in the donation chair. Be a hero, donate blood, and save a life!

Just in case you feel the urge to spring into action tomorrow and donate blood, here are March 21st's blood drives in South Carolina:*
